UPDATE: Steelers predicted to add 5’10, 4-INT CB as possible Donte Jackson replacement.THANHDUNG

The Pittsburgh Steelers shored up the cornerback position during the 2024 offseason when they traded Diontae Johnson and a seventh-round pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for Donte Jackson and a sixth-round pick.

Jackson has proven to be a strong addition for Pittsburgh over 14 games, with the veteran cornerback surrendering a completion rate of 54.2% and a passer rating of 62.2, both of which are career-bests for him.

But the Steelers may need a new running mate for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in 2025, as Jackson is set to be an unrestricted free agent and isn’t guaranteed to be back.

In the event that the Steelers don’t bring Jackson back or just want to add more help in the secondary, The Draft Network’s Keith Sanchez has the team taking Oregon cornerback Jabbar Muhammad in the 2025 NFL Draft.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense is once again one of the best in the NFL, with their front seven playing as the foundation for their success,” Sanchez wrote. “But the secondary could be an issue. Joey Porter Jr. appears to be a home-run pick, but the opposite side needs to be addressed for the future. Jabbar Muhammad is a scrappy outside corner who can kick inside to nickel and would give the Steelers some versatility on the back end of their defense.”

Muhammad began his collegiate career at Oklahoma State before moving on to play for Washington in 2023, and then Oregon in 2024. Over 59 games, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound defender has four interceptions and 39 passes defensed.

Thanks to Muhammad’s versatility, he could either serve as a replacement for Jackson if he moves on in free agency, or the Oregon standout could line up in the slot if the Steelers bring the veteran cornerback back in 2025. Either way, adding Muhammad would make sense for the Steelers.
