After Rico Dowdle signed with the Carolina Panthers during NFL free agency, the Dallas Cowboys must continue to revamp their running back lineup.
Dallas secured veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in the initial week of free agency, yet they could still gain from acquiring a standout primary back in the NFL Draft. With a rich pool of running backs available, another prospect has caught their attention.
Brashard Smith, a standout from the SMU Mustangs, announced that he will meet with the Cowboys for a “Dallas Day” visit, specifically arranged for local talent. Joseph Hoyt of All DLLS reported this on social media. Smith used his final collegiate year with the Mustangs after beginning his career as a wide receiver for the Miami Hurricanes.
In 2024, Smith earned a spot on the first-team All-ACC. Last season, he amassed 1,332 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, alongside 39 receptions for 327 yards and four additional scores. With such versatility, Smith presents an intriguing option to complete the Cowboys’ backfield.
The 2025 NFL Draft is slated to occur in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with the opening round on Thursday, April 24. Rounds 2 and 3 are scheduled for Friday, April 25, while the concluding rounds will take place on Saturday, April 26.
