The Dallas Cowboys faced a setback recently when their backup quarterback, Cooper Rush, inked a two-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens. Although Will Grier remains on their roster, it seems unlikely that the team will enter the season without bolstering the quarterback position.
As reported by Mike Fisher of Athlon Sports, one name surfacing in discussions is Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. Fisher notes that the staff at The Star are “intrigued” by Ewers, with sources suggesting that the Cowboys hold the young prospect in high regard.
In 2024, Ewers showcased his talent for the Longhorns, amassing 3,472 yards along with 31 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. While he considered staying another year, he ultimately chose to pursue a professional career.
Renowned for his natural passing ability, Ewers still needs to hone his consistency at the professional level, making a backup role potentially beneficial for his development. Having played high school football in Southlake, Ewers could participate in a Dallas Day visit with the Cowboys before the 2025 NFL Draft.
Additionally, he shares an interesting link to the team, having previously trained with former head coach Mike McCarthy, who maintains a strong rapport with current coach Brian Schottenheimer.
