SAN FRANCISCO 49ers chief John Lynch has hopes to have Brock Purdy tied down to a new contract “sooner rather than later”.
The quarter-back was the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft but has since become an integral player for the 49ers.

He has since made 46 appearances for the franchise and the management team are keen to agree a new deal.
It has been rumoured Purdy will be offered $50million-a-year to secure his future.
General manager Lynch has confirmed negotiations are underway and although he refused to discuss details, he has revealed progress has been made.
He told the Unbuttoned podcast: “I can tell you, we’ve made it a practice not to talk about negotiations.
“And that goes way back to when I was playing. I felt like that was my business and I didn’t want the world knowing it. So I’ve always been very sensitive to that.
“But what I will tell you and call tell you is we’re having really good, positive discussions.
“When it gets done, I’m not sure. Hope sooner rather than later, but hope is not a strategy. So, we’re making progress. We’ve had good discussions.”
Purdy is playing on the final year of his rookie contract in 2025, and will need an extension to remain with the 49ers.
The 25-year-old broke out in a big way during the 2023 season.
He passed for 4,290 yards with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, making the Pro Bowl and finishing top-five in MVP voting.

However, he came back down to earth last season, passing for 3,863 yards with just 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The 49ers were just 6-9 in games he played and they finished with a 6-11 record overall.
Still, it looks like they are ready to reward him with a massive contract.
$50m a season would put Purdy among the highest-paid players in the league.
Notably, he would be making more money than Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, and Baker Mayfield.
