Peyton Manning became the latest to take a swipe at Jerry Jones. While hosting the County Music Award on Wednesday night, the Hall of Fame quarterback called out Jones for the Dallas Cowboys’ miserable season.
Manning had help from County music stars Luke Bryan and Lainey Wilson to announce the winners in the various categories. Wilson gave a shoutout to fellow singer Kelsea Ballerini for her amazing new song titled ‘Cowboys Cry Too’ which ruled the chartbusters ever since its official release.
The CMA jury nominated Ballerini for the Best Female Vocalist award, which led to the following conversation.
It took a moment for the joke to settle in, but once the crowd realized it, the auditorium at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, filled with loud chuckles.
Jones can’t catch a break. Not only the Cowboys have been bad, they are on the verge of not qualifying for the playoffs.
After back-to-back humiliating losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans, Jones’ Cowboys sit with a 3-7 record. To rub salt in the misery, the Cowboys lost their $60 million/a year quarterback Dak Prescott to a season-ending injury.
After making Prescott the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, Jones was ready to take the league by storm until everything fell apart. The seed was already sown during the offseason when he refused to make the team better, essentially regressing in the process.
Yet, hardly anyone could have perceived the Cowboys to be winless at home and win just three after ten games.
However, the veteran owner isn’t ready to give up on the season even if the roof starts falling on them. The biggest question right now is whether Jerry will make a mid-season change at the head coach’s spot.
Even though Mike McCarthy boasts three consecutive years of a 12-5 record, he has little to show in the postseason. With names such as Deion Sanders and Bill Belichick being pitched as the replacements, Jones may have to give it some serious thought.
