The Minnesota Vikings have been strategizing for the upcoming 2025 NFL season, focusing on assembling a roster that features both star power and depth. Their latest move? Bringing aboard a promising asset from the NFC West that signals their intent to bolster the offensive lineup under the guidance of head coach Kevin O’Connell.

In a headline-grabbing deal, the Vikings have successfully traded for San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason. This acquisition, spotlighted by NFL insider Adam Schefter, includes a two-year contract with Minnesota, valued at over $7 million fully guaranteed, with potential earnings reaching $12 million.

The trade details, as outlined by Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, reveal that the Vikings will yield a 2026 sixth-round draft pick to the 49ers. Additionally, there’s a shuffle of draft picks in this year’s NFL Draft, with Minnesota acquiring the No. 187 pick in exchange for their No. 160 pick. All in all, it’s a deal that adds strategic depth to Minnesota’s backfield.

Jordan Mason erupted onto the scene last season when handed a starting role due to an injury to Christian McCaffrey. In 12 game appearances, including six starts, Mason churned out 789 rushing yards and found the end zone three times. Notably, he surpassed the 100-yard mark in half of those starts, solidifying his reputation as a force on the ground.

Standing at five-foot-eleven and packing 233 pounds of muscle, the 25-year-old running back brings a physical, hard-nosed style that should mesh well with Minnesota’s offensive tactics. Having gone undrafted in 2022, Mason’s journey to the NFL has been nothing short of inspiring, showcasing his determination and talent.

The addition of Mason offers the Vikings a formidable pairing in the backfield, alongside veteran Aaron Jones. This complementary duo promises to alleviate some of the workload from Jones while providing flexibility for the offense—regardless of who’s under center come 2025. And with Mason filling the needed role without Minnesota having to dive into the free agency or draft pool for a second running back, this trade appears to be a savvy and cost-effective maneuver.

A warm welcome to Jordan Mason, as he dons the purple and gold. Vikings fans have plenty to look forward to as the dynamic running back prepares to make his mark in Minnesota.
