Watson’s Back and Better Than Ever: Packers’ Star Wideout Make an Instant Impact… – VC

When you think about ceiling, you would probably think about Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and maybe even Dontayvion Wicks before Romeo Doubs amongst the Green Bay Packers‘ wide receivers. But it’s hard to be more consistent than Doubs, and his return on Sunday Night Football after missing two games because of a concussion was one of the big reasons why the Packers won.

Doubs didn’t have much volume, with only three catches. But two of them were big-time touchdowns. The first one, carrying multiple defenders on his back to reach the endzone. The second, an impressive catch to put the game away.

It was awesome. That was something I really hadn’t seen of Rome, just running guys over and carrying the team on his back,” quarterback Jordan Love said. “But it just shows how much he loves it and is willing to fight for those extra yards, fight to get that touchdown. It was a great play by him. You always want to have your best guys out there healthy. It was tough not having Rome out there. But to get him back, and him obviously having those two touchdowns, it was huge tonight. He is one of our best playmakers on offense, so it’s good to have him back out there.”

Doubs had a difficult personal moment earlier this offseason, which led to a team-imposed one-game suspension. That’s behind him, though, and his character is a reason for praise.

“I love how Rome works and he’s been pretty consistent for us when given opportunities,” head coach Matt LaFleur pointed out. “It was cool to have him back out there. It’s hard to get all the guys the amount of touches you would like to when you have a room that we feel it’s pretty stacked, you have a lot of guys that you wanna get involved, whether it’s our running backs, certainly Tucker Kraft made some big-time plays. But that’s a good problem to have.”

Doubs is one of the preferred targets for Love. And his second touchdown of the night couldn’t have happened at a better time, considering how much the offense had regressed after halftime.

“It was big-time. It felt way disjointed in the second half,” LaFleur added. “That’s the reality of it, and give them (the Seahawks) credit. It’s a good defense. But I thought there were some opportunities there, we just didn’t capitalize on.”

Romeo Doubs did, though. As a possession receiver, he offers something the Packers don’t have elsewhere. It’s important to have him on the field, and it became once again clear against the Seahawks.
