Well, it’s official — No, Aaron Rodgers didn’t sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it feels like that is coming soon, especially with the latest news surrounding Russell Wilson. The former Steelers quarterback is off the board, agreeing on a one-year deal worth $21 million with the New York Giants, per Adam Schefter.

With the Giants off the board for Rodgers’ services, that means it’s going to come down to the Steelers or retirement for the former first-rounder. Considering that not even a week ago, Rodgers was visiting the Steelers’ facilities and now Wilson is off to the Giants, it sure feels like this is the move that will be happening in Pittsburgh.

Aaron Rodgers joining the Steelers feels like a matter of when and not if

It’s been a frustrating process so far, as Rodgers has dragged his feet during free agency. The 41-year-old quarterback was released by the Jets at the start of free agency but it’s been clear as day that Pittsburgh wants him to be its quarterback in 2025.

Of course, Rodgers wouldn’t be the long-term plan given that he’s set to turn 42 years old at the end of the season but he’d be an upgrade over what the Steelers have had in recent years. Sure, the Jets didn’t have a good year last year but it wasn’t all on Rodgers. He actually put up respectable numbers for the most part.

The Steelers have had issues finding a reliable quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger walked off into the retirement sunset, trying out the Mitchell Trubisky and Kenny Pickett experiment in Year 1. From there, Mason Rudolph, Russell Wilson, and Justin Fields all got chances to show what they could do but nothing has stuck.

While Wilson did okay during his lone season in the Steel City, it became crystal clear that the Steelers weren’t interested in re-signing him despite the feeling not being mutual. Now he’s headed to the Big Apple and it feels imminent that Aaron Rodgers will be the next starting quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
