What strategies will the Buffalo Bills reveal in the upcoming NFL draft? Revealing the potential to change the course of the season.

The Buffalo Bills have made a strategic move in the 2025 NFL Draft, bringing aboard Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston with the No. 30 overall pick. Under the watchful eye of coach Sean McDermott, Hairston is expected to make an immediate impact on the Bills’ defense.

Hairston’s selection followed an intriguing turn of events, when the Detroit Lions snagged Ohio State’s run-stuffing defensive tackle Tyleik Williams at No. 28—a move some analysts labeled as a bit of a reach. However, Williams’ own insight suggests otherwise, hinting that the Bills were eyeing him closely and wouldn’t have hesitated to welcome him to Buffalo if he were available at their turn.

Jordan Poyer's contract dispute, draft chatter: 5 takeaways from Bills GM Brandon Beane - The Athletic

General Manager Brandon Beane still holds some cards, with two second-round picks at No. 56 and No. 62, and he might be considering reinforcing the defensive tackle position with one of those spots. With dominant defenders being swept off the draft board early, including top-notch talents like Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, Walter Nolen, and Derrick Harmon, the road to bolstering the defensive line is quite competitive.

Buffalo still has some intriguing prospects to consider for bolstering their trench warfare. On the board are some of the more promising interior pass rushers, such as Darius Alexander from Toledo and TJ Sanders from South Carolina. If run defense is the priority, Kentucky’s Deone Walker or Texas’ Alfred Collins could be on Beane’s radar during the second round.

The decision to pick Hairston also speaks volumes about Buffalo’s draft strategy. In a year when the cornerback class wasn’t particularly deep, seizing Hairston when they did was a calculated risk that has the potential to pay off big time.

Meanwhile, the defensive tackle pool offers depth and quality, giving Beane a chance to leverage that with his upcoming picks. With these second-round opportunities, the Bills are gearing up to challenge the Kansas City Chiefs for AFC supremacy.

Now all eyes are on Beane to see if he can capitalize on this draft momentum to put together a squad capable of dethroning the current AFC kings.
