The perhaps the most non-newsworthy news in the sports world right now, the Detroit Lions have officially renewed their partnership with Ford for the naming rights to Ford Field. In other news, water is wet…
Of course, the Ford family owns the Detroit Lions, so it’s not exactly a shock that they’re going to continue to partner with the team, but it’s what the Lions did to announce the extension of the Ford Field partnership that has fans upset. They called on Detroit-area native, Kid Rock to be a part of it…
When you think Detroit you think Eminem or Big Sean, you might think rockers like Ted Nugent or Motown singers like Diana Ross or Stevie Wonder, but ask anybody and they name you the All-American Badass, Mr. Bob Ritchie, AKA… Kid Rock. Next to Em, it’s hard to imagine someone more synonymous with the Motor City than Kid Rock, but of course, in this day and age where everything is politicized, Lions fans were mad.
And they let it be known in the comments of the teaser video, featuring Bob, Big Sean, head coach Dan Campbell, Lions legend Barry Sanders, and current running back David Montgomery. Before they even knew what the announcement was, they were going off in the comments on how Kid Rock shouldn’t be included:
“We don’t need Kid Rock in any Lions videos.”
“The people of Detroit dont wanna hear a damn word Kid Rock has to say”
“Love everyone here except kid Rock please get Eminem instead”
“Literally remove kid rock.”
“Can we start a petition to get rid of Kid Rock”
“Man, how is Kid Rock still involved in anything with Detroit?”
“Do better, Lions. Kid Rock is not Detroit.”
“We don’t rock with kid rock.”
“We unanimously want Robert edited out of whatever this is.”
“Came to the comments to make sure I’m not the only one not happy to see Kid Rock”
“Kid Rock is an embarrassment to this gathering of great human beings.”
“Get Kid Rock tf away from our team”
“Can we vote out Kid Rock? Seriously why is he there?”
“Eminem supported you guys so hard. Why would you collaborate with with kid rock?”
“Kid rock could’ve stayed home”
‘Nobody wants to see Kid Rock, not even new Lions fans.”
It went on and on like that…
Back in 2024, the Lions won their first playoff game in 32 years, defeating the LA Rams, and ahead of their Divisional Round matchup against the Buccaneers, quarterback Jared Goff came under fire after he said he wanted Kid Rock to come to the game.
“I think the only guy, I don’t know if I’ve seen him at a game yet, would be Kid Rock. That would be pretty fun. I think the crowd would enjoy that.”
Kid Rock was born in Romeo, Michigan, a town on the northern edge of the Detroit metro area. His father owned a few car dealerships, they had a pretty nice spread, and by all accounts, Bob grew up pretty upper-middle class… not exactly the “white trash” image that you got from his early records. His critics seems to cite that as the reason he doesn’t belong associated with the city, as well as the fact that he lives in Nashville now, but like I said earlier, he’s been repping the city for what… 30 years, now? Gimme a break. We all know the truth though… they don’t like him because he supports Donald Trump. That’s it, end of discussion.
Zero Super Bowl appearances in franchise history, have two playoff wins since 1992, Ben Johnson is off to win the Chicago Bears a Super Bowl, Aaron Glenn is gone, and this is what y’all care about? C’mon… loser franchise.
