Who is the Eagles’ backup quarterback? Philadelphia’s 2025 QB depth chart behind Jalen Hurts-HN

After missing two games with a concussion he suffered in Week 16, Jalen Hurts returned to practice for the Eagles.

Hurts and the Eagles bounced back this season after an 11-6 finish last season, including a disappointing wild card loss. The fifth-year quarterback threw for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns with five interceptions in 2024. He also rushed for 630 yards and added 14 scores on the ground, fumbling the ball four times.

Eagles QB depth chart is littered with drama from Jalen Hurts injury to Kenny Pickett

As the Eagles prepare to take on Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, the franchise needs Hurts at his best. Hurts is a mobile quarterback but Green Bay is top 10 in sack percentage and sacks per game, as well as opposing passing rating. The Packers are a physical defense that could get to Hurts, make him uncomfortable and create a risk of injury.

Fans may already be somewhat familiar with Philadelphia’s quarterback depth chart from the past two weeks, but here is what to know about the Eagles’ QB room as they look to make their second Super Bowl in three years.

Who is the Eagles’ backup quarterback?

Kenny Pickett is in line to be the backup quarterback behind Hurts for Sunday’s matchup with Green Bay.

Pickett, 26, was selected 20th overall in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He went to the University of Pittsburgh where he started for four seasons. He was named the 2021 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and won the 2021 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Pickett played 25 total games for the Steelers over two seasons, finishing with a record of 14-10.

In 2022, Pickett threw for 2,404 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games, along with nine interceptions and three fumbles. He played 12 games last year, throwing for 2,070 yards and six touchdowns, with six total turnovers. He was benched in his 25th game in favor of Mason Rudolph, ending his tenure with the Steelers.

This past offseason, the Eagles traded for Pickett after Pittsburgh acquired Russell Wilson. Pickett stepped in against Washington after Hurts went out with a concussion, finishing with 143 yards, a touchdown and an interception while completing 58.3 percent of his passes. Philadelphia lost 36-33 to the Commanders.

Pickett started the next game against the Dallas Cowboys. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown, adding a score on the ground as well.

While Hurts is clearly Philadelphia’s QB1, the Eagles have some options with recent experience in case their starter goes down, including third-string QB Tanner McKee.

The Eagles turned to McKee in Week 18’s game against the New York Giants. McKee was picked in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft after starting two seasons at Stanford. In McKee’s first-ever start, he played well, completing 27 of 41 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns.
