The Texans will reportedly interview Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator and tight ends coach Nick Caley this week, per KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson. Caley, 42, spent the last two seasons crafting the Rams’ passing attack alongside Sean McVay, a head coach renowned as one of the top offensive minds in football. Prior to the Rams, Caley worked as an assistant with the New England Patriots from 2015-22, working as the team’s tight ends coach for the majority of his tenure.

Caley’s time in New England coincided with Texans’ general manager Nick Caserio’s final six years with the Patriots before Caserio assumed Houston’s GM role. There’s also a collegiate connection. Caley and Caserio are John Carroll University graduates, as is current Houston special teams coach Frank Ross.

Caley faces competition for the gig in Houston, but the Texans also face competition for his services. Caley interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to replace new Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen as Tampa’s offensive coordinator, and Caley is also a candidate for the New York Jets’ OC opening, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

The Texans’ offense slumped through the second half of 2024. A new coordinator should be in place in the coming weeks before the preparation begins for C.J. Stroud’s third NFL season.
