WWE superstar ‘The Miz’ calls on the Cleveland Browns to follow the Kansas City Chiefs’ rookie development strategy for Patrick Mahomes.

This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Mike ‘The Miz’ Mizanin about his participation in this year’s American Century Championship, which will take place July 9-13 at Edgewood Tahoe, and his favorite team, the Cleveland Browns, whom he hopes will take a tip from the Kansas City Chiefs.

“When I first saw what we (Cleveland Browns) did with the second pick, I wanted Travis Hunter; I think he’s a generational talent. He’s going to play offense-defense. The best football player in the draft is what you’re hearing. And then when I saw what we got for that second pick, I was like, wow, we just got a haul. So right then and there. I said, You know what? These guys know exactly what they’re doing,” said Miz, “Now, do we have a huge quarterback room? Yes. But do we need a huge quarterback room? Yes, because we can never find a good quarterback who is our franchise player. So I think now is when we’re going to have a little competition, like to be, you know, to go up against each other. And I’m excited to see what Shedeur (Sanders), Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, and Joe Flacco can do in that quarterback room. Hopefully, the young kids can learn from Flacco because he is a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, and I’m hoping that, you know, one of their college careers translates to the NFL.”

Chiefs vs. Bengals: Mahomes says he's fine after hurting foot

Miz mentioned Shedeur Sanders as his choice for the future franchise quarterback role. However, he wants Kansas City to utilize the process during Patrick Mahomes’ rookie season.

“I can sit here and say any name, and you never know until you get to the first game in the NFL and all the defensive packages are put into place, and you see how well they’re able to look at the field and see the field and see where they need to go. So that’s what I’m looking forward to. I look forward to seeing them get on the field and do something during a real NFL game. I’m not talking preseason, either. We can talk about the draft, rookie OTAs, regular OTAs, and the preseason. It all comes to fruition when the NFL season comes, and that’s what I’m looking forward to,” said Miz, “Hopefully, they’ll be able to sit back and watch for a little while before they get in. I always think of what they did with Patrick Mahomes; Kansas City was the perfect situation for him. He got to sit a year learning from Alex Smith, and now he’s one of the best quarterbacks ever to do it. So, hopefully, we’ll be able to do the same thing.”

The annual tournament awards $750,000 in prize money, much of which the celebrity players donate to local and national charities. Over the years, nearly $8 million has been donated to non-profit causes. Network television exposure on NBC, along with a first-place prize of $150,000, makes the celebrity tournament one of the most prestigious in the golf world.
