Despite the ongoing discussions about his suitability at first base and his interactions with the Boston Red Sox’s management, Rafael Devers remains a powerhouse at the plate.
The 28-year-old designated hitter launched an impressive 440-foot home run against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, giving his team the lead with a two-run blast. Boston clinched the series finale 3-1, with Devers ending the game 2-for-3 and drawing a walk.
In his last 15 contests, Devers is hitting .424 with an OPS of 1.277. Since April 26, he has accumulated five home runs, five doubles, 15 singles, 10 walks, and one hit-by-pitch. According to J.P. Long, Devers is the first Red Sox player to hit five or more home runs and get on base over 35 times in a 15-game stretch since J.D. Martinez achieved this in 2019.
He stands alone in MLB for accomplishing this feat in 2025. Currently, Devers is batting .280 with an OPS of .888 for the season, leading all MLB players with 42 games played. After a rough start to the season, going 0-for-19 with 15 strikeouts, Devers has rebounded with a .319 average and .987 OPS.
It remains unclear whether Devers will continue as the designated hitter or transition to first base during Triston Casas’ absence. Nevertheless, the slugger has been justifying his $313.5 million contract recently. The Red Sox will resume their road trip in the AL Central on Monday, beginning a series against the Detroit Tigers.
