The Boston Red Sox had an impressive evening on Saturday, turning the tables on the Kansas City Royals, who have been in excellent form. One standout performer in the victory was designated hitter Rafael Devers. He delivered a perfect performance, going 4-for-4, driving in three runs, scoring once, and drawing a walk.
This stellar outing boosted his season-long slash line to .273/.390/.468. Although Devers has been in exceptional form at the plate lately, the focus has been elsewhere. In recent days, the main topic of conversation regarding Devers has been his initial reluctance to play first base. Boston shortstop Trevor Story shared his perspective on the situation, as reported by MassLivecom’s Chris Cotillo.
“We’re all grown-ups here, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” Story remarked. “Raffy expressed his feelings. I believe he was a bit frustrated with how things were managed. I’m not entirely sure of the specifics or have spoken to him about it yet. To delve deeper would be irresponsible, considering the situation is still evolving.
“We’ll address it. Emotions are running high right now, but we’ll sort it out. As I mentioned, we’re adults. We’ll resolve this eventually, and ultimately, it’s about winning games, which I think everyone can agree on.” Story has experience in changing positions himself, having moved from shortstop to second base when he joined Boston with Xander Bogaerts present.
He seemed unfazed by the current situation, as also noted by Cotillo. “Naturally, it might appear that way, but we’re focused on today, man,” Story stated. “We’re focused on winning baseball games today, whatever it takes. And the same goes for Raffy, and everyone here is on the same page. Sure, there are some uncertainties, but from one teammate to another, we’re not giving it any more attention. It’s about winning tonight, and it’ll be the same tomorrow.”
