The Boston Red Sox have kicked off the 2025 season with a successful start after making significant roster enhancements during the winter. The management team brought in players like Garrett Crochet, Walker Buehler, Aroldis Chapman, and Alex Bregman, aiming for a playoff return and a deep postseason run.
As this promising season begins, one prominent player is drawing attention for a Netflix series filmed throughout the 2024 season. In an upcoming episode of “The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox,” set to be released on Tuesday, All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran revealed a past suicide attempt, as reported by Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
“I reached a point where I was in my room, holding my rifle with a bullet, and I pulled the trigger, but the gun didn’t fire,” Duran stated in the series interview, according to Cotillo. “I believe that God intervened to save my life because I truly don’t know why it didn’t discharge.” Duran’s revelation was brought to light through an advance copy of the series shared by Netflix.
Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy responded to the player’s admission about a mental health crisis with two crucial words: “it’s essential.” “Jarren’s choice to share his experience is a brave act that extends beyond the realm of baseball,” Kennedy added, according to Cotillo.
“By speaking out, he shows others who might be experiencing similar struggles that they are not alone and that seeking help is not just acceptable, but vital. Every single person in this organization stands by him.” As the team pursues a return to the playoffs in 2025, the spotlight on Duran’s story serves as a significant reminder of life beyond the field.
