Fractured Eagles went from Dallas Goedert and Jalen Hurts arguing and tearful Jason Kelce retiring to Super Bowl contenders in just over a year-HN

It’s been quite the roller coaster for the Philadelphia Eagles since their last Super Bowl appearance.

The Eagles were 15 minutes away from capturing the franchise’s second ever Lombardi Trophy two years ago against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, until they unraveled and let it slip away.

The following season the Eagles started 10-1, but then inexplicably lost six of their last seven games, including an embarrassing 32-9 meltdown in the wild card round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That game saw two significant moments take place.

The first was when the cameras caught tight end Dallas Goedert becoming animated and argumentative towards quarterback Jalen Hurts while the two were on the sideline.

It was an unusual interaction between the two close teammates.

In the end, as this season proved, no harm no foul.

The second huge moment from that game, was that it ended up being Jason Kelce’s last.

The franchise legend was visibly emotional on the sideline, as tears rolled from his face.

At the time, his retirement was still up in the air.

At that point, it was just speculation.

But after the emotional reaction in defeat, it was clear that Kelce had played his last game as a Philadelphia Eagle.

Fast forward a year later, and what looked to be a team trending down, with a lame duck head coach in Nick Sirianni, has instead answered every critic along the way to their second Super Bowl appearance in three years.

The Eagles finished 14-3, won the NFC East, secured the two seed and blazed through the postseason.

They have now set themselves up for a rematch with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

It is a game that feels all too familiar, except this time there are two major changes.

One, Kelce is gone.

He was the heart and soul of Philadelphia for the last 13 seasons before his retirement.

He’s since moved to the media world and has been an active supporter and fan of his beloved Eagles, still staying very much involved and engaged.

The other major change, is that two years ago the Eagles didn’t have Saquon Barkley.

They do now.

The All-Pro running back is having arguably the best season ever from the position, rushing well over 2,000 yards and lighting the postseason on fire.

Barkley has the chance to be the difference this time around.

‘Might be that guy’ – Jalen Hurts takes on 330lb beast and fans think footage proves he’s Super Bowl caliber

And that’s what Philadelphia will be counting on.

From the brink of total chaos a year ago, back to the sport’s grandest stage, there hasn’t been a journey quite like these Eagles.

The only question remains, can they finish the job?
