Boston, MA — In a move that has left both baseball and tech fans scratching their heads (and refreshing their feeds), Elon Musk has declared war on one of MLB’s most storied franchises: the Boston Red Sox.
Speaking during a late-night X (formerly Twitter) Spaces session titled “Tesla, Baseball, and the Future of Everything”, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX dropped an unexpected bombshell:
“If the Red Sox don’t want to partner with Tesla, they can forget about driving one. I’ll ban the entire team — and the entire city of Boston — from buying Teslas. No joke.”
Musk claims he offered the Red Sox a “next-gen sponsorship opportunity” involving Tesla-branded charging stations at Fenway Park, solar-powered scoreboard technology, and a luxury “CyberDugout” suite. But according to Musk, the Sox never responded.
Now he’s taking it personally.
“You think you’re better than Tesla? Let’s see how it feels when your players are stuck in traffic with no Autopilot,” Musk said. “If you’re in Boston and you want a Tesla, move to New Hampshire.”
The reaction across the baseball world was swift — and hilarious. Red Sox star Rafael Devers posted a photo of his Dodge Challenger with the caption: “I’m good.” Meanwhile, fans flooded social media with memes showing Big Papi riding a bicycle through the streets of Boston.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was quick to respond:
“Elon Musk banning Teslas in Boston? That’s like banning Dunkin’. Good luck with that.”
The Red Sox organization has not released an official statement, though sources say upper management is “bewildered” and “not sure if this is a prank, a publicity stunt, or both.”
Legal experts weighed in, noting Musk can’t technically “ban” sales of vehicles in a specific city — but also admitting that if anyone could find a way to try, it’d be him.
This isn’t the first time Musk has gone rogue with bizarre ultimatums, but targeting Fenway Faithful? That’s a bold move, even for him.
For now, Boston fans are left wondering: will the Red Sox call Elon’s bluff — or is a Tesla-fueled truce still possible before opening pitch?
