After the Los Angeles Rams expressed that they would trade wide receiver Cooper Kupp, there were questions about other members of their roster. That includes quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is not getting any younger. Could that lead to a trade for Stafford and the Rams?
Maybe, and multiple people have pegged the Pittsburgh Steelers as the landing spot for Stafford if it does happen. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated said the Steelers must check in on Stafford if that becomes viable
Yet, Breer is not the only person chirping this path for the Steelers. Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovksy said the same thing last week, throwing Pittsburgh out as a destination for Stafford.
“Honestly, if I were the Giants, if I were the Steelers, if I were a lot of teams that would be my number one call. Try to see kind of what the plan is for Matthew Stafford,” Orlovsky said.
While Stafford is a star, he could be on the decline as he continues to get older. Steelers team president Art Rooney, meanwhile, hopes to have an option in place for at least two years to stabilize the quarterback position. The Steelers have turned over their quarterback spot over the last few seasons while trying to find the answer but have remained unsuccessful.
